The importance of the accessories we wash with
Sometimes it's easy to forget that the accessories we use are just as important as the products we choose, and our technique. You can get swirls, scratches, and holograms from all sorts of things including aggressive rotary buffers, improper techniques, and even automatic car washes. However, one of the most common reasons for getting swirls comes down to the accessories we use when washing our cars.

One simple accessory that can greatly help minimize creating swirls while washing is Meguiar's Professional Grit Guard. This radial agitation grid is constructed of tough plastic and sits at the bottom of your wash bucket. Designed to fit most 3.5 – 5 gallon buckets, it has a four-quadrant base to isolate dirt and debris to keep your wash mitt clean. Every time you come off your car with your wash mitt, rub it over the Grit Guard and it will help remove any dirt and abrasive grit from the mitt and deposit it at the bottom of your bucket instead of pushing it into your paint.

Two bucket method
We recommend using the 'Two Bucket' method in conjunction with Meguiar's Professional Grit Guard and Meguiar's Microfiber Wash Mitt to further reduce the chances of inflicting swirls and scratches into the paint. The two bucket method makes use of one bucket for the wash solution and a second bucket with just plain water to use as a rinse for the wash mitt.
